Remco holds a PhD in theoretical computer science, focused on bio-inspired and bio-based computing. He worked as a postdoc and senior scientist at EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute in Cambridge, where he applied next-generation sequencing to understand stem cells and early development. He then moved to biotech start-up Helix Nanotechnologies to lead the development of DNA-based nanodevices. Since 2016, he heads a computational research group at the Celgene Institute for Translational Research Europe in Seville, developing and applying novel computational approaches to gain insight in disease biology and to accelerate drug development.
