Principal Investigator and Assistant Professor
ICVS and Karolinska Institutet
Ana Mendanha Falco
Ana Falcão has recently started her research team at University of Minho in Portugal where she is studying the functions of the choroid plexus, an overlooked tissue whose most described function is the production of the cerebrospinal fluid. During her PhD Ana has studied how choroid plexus derived molecules influence the behaviour of adult neural stem cells of the subventricular zone. Then, Ana moved to Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, where she has developed research projects focused on oligodendrocyte (OL) cell biology and multiple sclerosis (MS) that have changed the view of OL role in MS pathology. Currently, Ana is developing projects that result from the combination of expertise acquired so far, and bridge three main themes together: choroid plexus biological functions, OL cell biology and MS etiology/pathology.
