Hansjürgen Volkmer

Professor
University of Tübingen
Juan Espinosa
After studying Biology (1979-1985) Hansjürgen proceeded as a PhD student at the University of Tübingen. The focus of his research project was the function of a herpesviral protein in gene activation and in the presentation of cytolytic T-cell epitopes. After completion of his PhD (1989), Hansjürgen changed to molecular neuroscience with a focus on mechanisms of cell-cell interactions. He received postdoctoral training at the Centre for Molecular Neurobiology, Hamburg (1989-1993) followed by a position as a Senior Postdoc at the Max-Delbrück-Centre for Molecular Medicine, Berlin (1993-1997). Subsequently, he joined the NMI at the University of Tübingen receiving a position as a Dept. Head of Cell Biology later on in 2004. His interest is the identification of molecular pathways for synapse stabilization and the development of test systems for neuropsychiatric disorders.
