Erasmus University Medical Centre Rotterdam (Erasmus MC)
Dr Hays is an associate professor at the Erasmus University Medical Centre Rotterdam (Erasmus MC), Rotterdam. The Netherlands. In 1996 he gained a PhD from Leicester University, UK (human coronavirus 229E) and in 2005 a PhD from Erasmus MC (Moraxella catarrhalis). His research is focussed on the development of 'bench-to-bedside' solutions in the fight against the global endemic of antimicrobial resistance, including the development and implementation of rapid/Point-of-Care diagnostic technologies. Dr Hays has published > 62 scientific articles and made contributions to 5 books. He has been involved in 9 EU-based projects (3 as coordinator), was elected to the Council on Microbial Sciences (COMS) of the American Society for Microbiology (1 year term) and is now the ‘ASM Country Ambassador’ for the Netherlands.
