Giandomenico Turchiano

Senior Research Associate
University College London
Currently working as senior research associate at the University College of London in Adrian Thrasher’s group with the aim to develop novel and safer therapeutic approaches for genetic diseases. The experience gained in immunology and gene therapy started in 2006 during the medical biotechnology university classes in Ferrara where he was in Riccardo Gavioli’s team involved in studying immune response towards EBV or HIV infected lymphocytes. Afterwards Dr. Turchiano had priceless experiences at the Children Hospital of Philadelphia in Kathy High’s lab focusing on the gene editing of FIX gene with ZFN technology; in Milan at the San Raffaele institute working in genome stability and dynamics in Leukaemia and in Modena in Mavilio’s lab characterizing the transposase activity and safety for gene therapy. Finally he applied these experiences in Cathomen’s lab where he developed clinical grade protocols for gene editing and the CAST-seq technique for genotoxicity assessment after designer nuclease treatment.
