Jonathan Orme is a Team Leader at AstraZeneca within the Discovery Sciences department responsible for the UK Cell Bank based in Alderley Park, Cheshire. As Team Leader, Jonathan leads the UK team responsible for the acquisition, growth, storage, QC, tracking and distribution of cell lines throughout AstraZeneca, as well as developing future industry standard capabilities for the storage and distribution of advanced cell systems. Jonathan graduated from Manchester University in 1995 with a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences and has worked in early to late phase drug discovery at AstraZeneca for over 30 years. Jons early career covered in vivo studies, enzymology, classical receptor kinetics and cell biology on Cardiovascular targets including potassium channels, diabetes & obesity. In 2006, Jonathan joined the Cancer and Infection department as Cell Screening Strategy Coordinator - working across Lead Optimisation projects building and developing the cell assay strategy and implementing the use of automation, new technologies and best practices. In 2008, he was promoted to Associate Principal Scientist in the Discovery Sciences department. Jonathan moved to Cambridge in 2015, where he took a position in the Cell Assay Development group continuing to develop assays and evaluate new technologies. He has a special interest in novel technologies for assay miniaturisation. Jonathan has significant project lead expertise, most notably related to EGFR, where he was part of the team that identified Tagrisso, the #1 prescribed EGFR TKI therapy as a first treatment for metastatic EGFR+ lung cancer.
